New applications for embedded flash modules are rapidly emerging due to the low cost per megabyte, lower power consumption, and inherently greater reliability than rotating hard drives. Most applications running embedded operating systems such as VxWorks, Windows, XP/embedded, and Linux don't have large data storage requirements, and a cost savings can be immediately realized. With the increasing popularity of USB and its efficient electrical and mechanical interface, embedded USB storage is the next logical step in the evolution of embedded Flash solutions. STEC's USB Flash Modules combine a standard USB 2.0 interface with the latest Single Level Cell (SLC) NAND Flash technology and Advanced Flash Management all in a convenient embedded form factor.

STEC's patented IC Tower® Stacking Technology make it possible to provide the Flash Module in capacities up to 8GB, the highest in the industry.
STEC's proprietary state-of-the-art flash memory controllers incorporated in both the UFM and IFM, provide high data reliability and endurance. The built-in ECC engine can correct up to 6-Bit errors, while sophisticated wear leveling algorithms guarantee +2M Write/Erase Cycles. Based on SLC Flash and high quality components, the STEC Flash Module solutions provide an unparalleled MTBF of more than 8,000,000 hrs.
High performance is ensured via SLC NAND flash technology and state-of-the-art controller technology. The USB Flash Module provides even higher performance than legacy IDE, with sustained read speeds up to 33MB/sec and sustained write speeds up to 26MB/sec.
USB 2.0 compliant with no proprietary software drivers or connectors required. 10-Pin interface fits most standard system boards.
Flash Modules are designed for embedded applications and are therefore small and compact. The UFM is available with a standard 10-pin 2.54mm connector or a 2.0mm low profile connector, specifically suited for designs that have Z-height limitations.
UFM complies with CE requirements, FCC standards, and have been approved by the UL organization. The UFM is USB 2.0 certified, and both modules are also provided in lead-free (RoHS-6) version only.
